Phil “Bump” Helm
Phil “Bump” Helm, President of Southwest Steel and Southwest Architectural Metals, has an impressive 37 years of experience in the steel industry. His extensive career began as an Ironworker apprentice raising gang in 1977 and has ascended to his current position by demonstrating his intuitive acumen for strong leadership, remarkable problem solving, and impressive delivery on every project. His experience as general foreman, field superintendent, general manager, and vice president of field operations, has further increased his skill set to create an effective and efficient President. Bump has been an instrumental leader and is highly dedicated to optimal performance. He provides overall direction and guidance to the operational activities with the objective of maximizing growth and profitability as well as day-to-day leadership and management. Bump manages operations by directing and coordinating activities consistent with established goals, objectives, and policies. He provides direction and structure for operating units, implements improved processes and management methods to generate higher ROI and workflow optimization, develops and creates strategies and policies aligned with organizational goals, provides mentoring and guidance, and ensures maintenance off the project contract with a focus on safety, quality control, and quality assurance.

Christian Klink
Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Christian Klink, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, brings a wealth of experience across a broad array of skill sets from fabrication to erection as well as from design development estimates to project management. Chris began his impressive career as an ironworker for Local 1 in Chicago and continued to advance to his current title. He has overall responsibility for sales and the preconstruction process from inception to the start of construction. Chris collaborates with the design team regarding schedule, budget, logistics, safety, general conditions, specific project requirements, and value engineering. He manages and develops staff in a collective effort to foster and develop client and team relationships. Chris coordinates and directs estimating, scheduling, and purchasing functions related to pre-construction phases. His extensive knowledge and experience make him adept at problem solving while being both service and solution oriented.

General Manager
Jon Elmen, General Manager, began his career in document control progressively working upward to his current position by demonstrating his advanced acumen for problem solving and by delivering remarkable job performances with each new role. Jon is responsible for the day-to-day execution of duties and performance milestone achievements of all Southwest Steel Project Managers. He possesses significant interpersonal skills and is intensely service oriented as demonstrated by his daily interactions with contractors, clients, subcontractors, and colleagues. With his years of experience in various levels of the company, Jon understands all phases of steel construction including BIM modeling and detailing, critical path scheduling, material procurement, subcontracts and requisite submittals, shop production, estimating, field coordination, site logistics, and equipment optimization. His hands-on knowledge includes all Division 5 products and services as well as HCPD, IPD, and LEED certified projects.
